Together for Change leads delivery of Community-Led Action Research in partnership with LPIP

Together for Change (TfC) is leading the delivery of the Community-led Action Research Programme, an integral part of the Rural Wales Local Policy and Innovation Partnership (LPIP). This collaborative initiative involves academic researchers, public bodies, and private and third sector stakeholders, all working together to enhance the use of research and innovation to support policy-making, regional development, and community resilience across rural Wales. TfC has successfully recruited for key roles and is now engaging with five communities across the LPIP’s priority themes.
The Cymru Wledig LPIP contributes significantly to the national agenda of more effectively implementing the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 (WBFGA), which places sustainable development and long-term wellbeing at the core of decision-making. The LPIP is structured around four priority themes that align with the wellbeing goals of the WBFGA:
- Building a Regenerative Economy
- Supporting the Net Zero Transition
- Empowering Communities for Cultural Recovery
- Enhancing Wellbeing in Place
Each priority area is supported by Thematic Groups consisting of academic researchers, community representatives, and stakeholders who share a vested interest in these themes.
The Community-led Action Research Programme provides an invaluable opportunity for rural communities across Wales to explore critical issues through action research. This approach allows participants to test innovative ideas, share knowledge, and work collaboratively with academic partners. As a cyclical and participatory method of research that directly addresses real-world challenges, the programme will build knowledge and translate it into practical actions. The findings from this research will be widely disseminated to influence strategic change and improve the resources and opportunities available to community-led organisations.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Together for Change to work with communities across rural Wales,” said Jessie Buchanan, CEO of Together for Change.
“By engaging with these communities and supporting them through collaborative action research, we are helping to ensure that the principles of a wellbeing economy are put into practice. The knowledge generated will provide valuable insights that can influence both local and national policies, driving forward sustainable development and long-term wellbeing.“
Through this work, TfC and the LPIP aim to create a landscape where community-led organisations are better equipped to generate and use evidence that leads to tangible, positive change for the communities they serve.
